HICK Movie - Red Band Trailer (Chloe Grace Moretz)
After watching this movie trailer a while ago I was intrigued to watch the film, it is not a romantic comedy which is the specific genre I have been mostly looking at however it still has many conventions and aspects that are great techniques to use in any genre trailer. The first shot is a long shot that pans down the high school we can see a girl sitting on the steps by herself this makes her look isolated. There is use of a school bell sound ringing which is linked to the school setting however there is also non diegetic music in the background that is slow and droopy giving the scene a slow pace and solitary mood. The camera focuses on a close up of the girls socks and shoes which are dirty and ripped suggesting she might be poor or badly looked after. This also creates mystery not revealing the protagonists face. The camera then quickly cuts to a close up shot of the protagonists face and we can see her facial expression is one of miserable and bored. Since she is given prevalence firstly we can infer that she is the main character that we will sympathise with and see the story from her point of view. The camera cuts from close up shots of the girl back to long shots of her at the steps reinforcing how isolated she seems. There is then a jump cut to an institution title shot leaving the audience on edge as it cuts from the illusion of the movie and then back into it again. There is another significant close up shot of the girl picking up a pistol from a box, and then the camera briefly focuses on the man's face when he engages in dialogue with her. As he is briefly given camera time we can infer that he is not very important. we then hear non diegetic sound of a woman's voice on a call saying " oh baby your daddy.. is gone" as we see a medium shot of the protagonist starring at a window from inside. There is then a shot of a title reading "Alone" in bold ink referring to the protagonist and highlighting a key theme in this movie of being alone. The music starts to pick up pace from then on and gets louder and quicker it is followed by a shot of the protagonist holding up her gun to a mirror and delivering a speech to herself. There are shots of her hands doing things such as drawing on a map and writing a list of pros and cons. This is effective as it creates the allusion that the audience are seeing things in her eyes making us feel as if we are the protagonist. Another theme shot appears with the word "sweet" and the protagonist follows this text shot by asking another character " do you think I'm pretty?" referencing to the last title. The non diegetic music progresses in getting quicker and quicker as do the durations of the scenes. We see a long shot of her leaving her house and saying "so long suckers" with her backpack suggesting she is going away and not returning. we are introduced to another character a young man in a truck that stops for her when she is trying to catch a ride. there is a close up shot of his car mirror where we see the reflection of the girl standing behind his car. This shot is effective is creating mystery and tension as she is the only person other than him there and she looks vulnerable in the reflection. The words innocent are then introduced in another title shot this contrasts the beginning scenes we see of her holding a gun which is a weapon associated with killing, danger and crime. Another lady is introduced as another main character as she is given prevalence and engages in a lot of dialogue with the girl, more titles appear to link to the scenes being shown such as "honest" "awkward"and "absurd". Towards the end of the trailer the actors names are mentioned at the bottom reminding the audiences and also mentioned to persuade audiences to see the movie because of the well known actors such as Chloe Mortez. The last themes mentioned is "brutal" and "violence" this title is then followed by short snappy shots of fighting and her getting chased and screaming and others gesturing aggressively which refers back to the title and connotes the genre of the movie to be drama as there is a lot of emotion and, explicit violence and difficult relationships.

'The Big Wedding' Trailer HD
This is one of many successful romantic comedy trailers, this is a film I recently watched which I very much enjoyed and I find this trailer to be really effective and amusing,it represents the key themes of this film very well. It begins with the well known titl,e institution "Lionsgate" Which has produced award winning films such as Hunger games,Twilight,Now you see me, Saw and many more films. Thus influencing the audience to watch this film as the film will most likely be successful. As there institution titles appear there is also non diegetic sound of what seems to be the sound of maracas shaking. This produces the trailer with rhythm. There is then a quick slide effect from the institution shot to the first significant scene, a long establishing shot of a mansion near the river. There is the sounds of dogs barking which is used as a sound bridge to the next middle shot of a lady knocking on the door and calling out "hello".We are immediately introduced to the genre as we see the lady walking in to an awkward situation of a man and another woman getting sexual with each other, which is amusing for the audience. The camera pans side ways from the main lady to the other lady and then to the mans facial expression when he says "hey my ex wife is here" in a sarcastic tone. This reinforces the awkwardness which is a common mood in most comedy films. There is then a jump cut back to trailer narrative shot where it reads "this fall" and then cross cuts back to the scene of the ladies having dialogue then cuts back to the narrative " the family gathers". This use of editing of cross cutting of scenes is very effective in reminding the audience that this is a trailer as it cuts out from the illusion that it is reality it is also effective in broadening the audiences understanding of the plot. There is then following extract shots of family members such as the dad and the daughter greeting each other. To refer back to the narrative shot. There is happy background music playing during these scenes "love don't come easy" which gives the trailer a light hearted theme. there is then some effective editing in a medium shot of the families adopted son and his fiancée talking about how his extremely catholic biological mother is coming for his wedding. when the lines" she is?" is delivered the non diegetic background music comes to an abrupt stop. To highlight the importance of his biological mother coming suggesting it is a key aspect in the film. The use of abruptly stopping music is very conventional in comedy film trailers , and is an editing skill me and Eleanor are planning on achieving in our trailer. The trailer is followed then by another song which is also upbeat but louder as the scenes are shorter and snappier, there are rapid shots of misunderstandings(when they attempt to speak spanish to his biological mother)and slapstick comedy all indicating the genre of this film. towards the end of the trailer the actors names are mentioned bellow medium shots of them in the movie.

LOL Official Trailer
This trailer begins with rapid shots of institution titles, and non diegetic sound of a guitar strings and the sound of a school bell which is used as a sound bridge to transfer from the institution shots to a long shot of people walking out of a high school. This was also used in "The secret lives of dorks" trailer as it used to indicate where the film is set. There is then a voice over narrative of the main character LOL this is a typical convention of romcom genre films and is used in several films like "Bridget jones" diary and "Notting hill". close up shots of the main character kissing a guy and taking a "Selfie" pictue with her friends appear lasting as quick as 2 seconds each. In tradition to these shots there are quick black fade outs. This editing is done to create the allusion of some one blinking making the audience feel as if we are some one there watching it up close. It then cuts to a close up shot of the main character LOL she is given the most prevalence in this trailer suggesting she is the most important character and the character we will most sympathise with. There is diegetic sound of a text being sent as we see an open window app appear on the screen and we see the words "BOYFRIEND" being typed onto the status. The use of the word boyfriend suggests that this genre is possible romcom as there will be a love interest. The use of texting and having to windows appear on screen makes this movie more relatable to its target audience which are teens and the mainstream use of smart phones and communicating through texts. Another close up shot of the main character cuts in and there is dialogue between her and and the guy leaning over her, he does not get much prevalence in this trailer which suggests that he is not the main love interest in this trailer. The trailer continues with quick shots of key phrases such as "whatever" "my baby" we see rapid shots of the main character falling into her bed crying and arguing with others at school. As the scenes progress there is nondiegetic emotive music , which creates rhythm and pace alongside the scenes. There are also various close up shots of the main characters facial expressions when she is faced with difficult situations, so that as the audience we sympathise with her. This trailer also proposes an enigma to the audience where it makes us wonder who she ends up with and how she will over come her problems with her mother her grades, and friendship problems. However as the trailer ends with quick shots of her smiling with her love interest and her watching him play a song to her, hints to the audience that like most romcoms it will end with a happy ending.
Film poster for LOL
This is the poster for LOL a teenager romcom. I find this poster interesting as it is not the typical conventional romcom film poster. This film is aimed at Teens and is evident as the title of the film is in pink font that is edited to create the allusion that it has been texted. The use of the letters lol mean laugh out loud and is slang that is used when texting typically used by teenagers. The title links in with the image of the poster we see famous actress and singer Miley Cyrus laying down with looking at her smart phone in her hands. She is dressed in casual clothing. This poster indicates that the film is based around her life as a teenager the title LOL also connotes comedy genre. Her name and the name of another well known Hollywood actress Demi Moore is in bold hot pink ink at the top so that it catches the readers eyes,As these actresses are the unique selling point of the film and will most likely persuade audiences to watch the movie because of their part in it.The colour hot pink also connotes femininity and appeals more to its specific target audience teenage girls. 13 Going On 30 trailer soundtrack
The variety of songs played in this trailer are very conventional for the Chickflick genre, they are popular songs of that time 90's. Also the songs that are played are preferred songs of girls of that time. This suggests that the films target audience is girls. The first song that plays is "girls just want to have fun" by Cindy looper. Which was a popular song back then especially for girls. The choice of soundtrack used in this film is to be taken into consideration as it is mostly popular pop music and female artists that would appeal to female audiences.

Notting Hill Official Trailer #1 - (1999) HD
This trailer for Notting hill was also produced by Working title institution, and begins in a similar way to Bridget Jones's trailer with the main characters voice over narrative. This strategy will be of great influence to me and Eleanor when producing our own trailer as we may choose to follow the romcom genre. The first shot is a medium shot of the main character being played by "Hugh Grant" a well known actor which is a unique selling point of the film and will persuade audiences to go watch the film. In this scene we see the main character bump into a lady and spill a drink all over her shirt. This is a typical convention of romcom genre boy bumps into girl scenario. We can infer that she will be his love interest as she is given prevalence in this trailer. There are then quick shots of them together as his voice over explains how important she is. There is then a significant shot of him opening his front door to a crowd of paparazzi. This indicates that his love interest is famous as wherever she goes the Paparazzi follows. There is then dialogue of all of his friends repeating her name "Anna Scott" this is done to emphasise how famous she is. And also hints that this may be an issue in the movie . The are rapid shots of him and Anna being together. The next significant scenes are of his friend Spike in a long shot of him posing in front of a mirror in his underwear. Also there is shot of him walking in on Anna while she is having a bath and unzipping his pants to pee before realising she is there. As he is given prevalence and is represented as quite comical and ridiculous we are shown that the genre of the film is also comedy as well as romance as the funny best friend is a traditional cliche of romcoms and is usually the main aspect of comedy in the film.

Nocturnal Animals Official Trailer - Teaser (2016) - Amy Adams Movie
Nocturnal Animals shows an evident link between both opening and closing shots which are quick paced, a voice over is shown towards the end of the trailer in which asks the audience a question. City skyline shots are used to set location. Cold colours are evident in the cinematography, this is surpassed to emphasise the thrill of the movie.
Close up shots of eyes are used excessively which emphasises the innocence and vulnerability within the film. The use of quick flash through shots infers the action creates Adrenalin in the film, There are references to the films title, both verbally and visually, which is used to show a realistic approach.
There is a supernatural/ alien like "finger tapping" shot, which introduces confusion, surrealism which also intrigues the audience, with its sinister feel this is reinforced by the non diegetic sound of sinister music that alerts danger. Glass and water drops infer life and health, the innocence and vulnerability, however also connoting danger, as the character is shown behind the glass. Jump cuts used relate to the tempo of the string music which helps put the trailer together and let it flow well, also adds to the intensity and thrill. There is lack of diegetic sound other than the use of dialogue, which insinuates that this film focuses on visuals and narration as opposed to background music or other sounds, its the type of movie that you may have to watch carefully to understand it well. There is non-diegetic use of "booms" and "wooms" which exaggerates the intensity and flow of the trailer.
The Fundamentals of Caring Official Trailer #1 (2016) Selena Gomez, Paul...
The Fundamentals of caring is a netflix made film starring Paul Rudd, and Selena Gomez. The non diegetic music used within this trailer indicates an indie comedy type genre, this is shown hrough the upbeat guitar strumming and drums beat, along with voices that echo "woah" and "ooo". It is suggested that the genre of the film is comedy as they introduce pauses in the non diegetic sound when a joke is said, to emphasise the joke, thus then shortly followed by a funny response. This is proceeded through many comedy trailers as it puts all the focus on the dialogue. This is consistent throughout the trailer. The beginning of this trailer begins with an establishing shot of a house that by the looks of it is in a suburban area in america. We then know this is america through the character of Paul Rudd, a famous american actor, who appears on the doorstep of the house. shortly after two characters are introduced, the non diegetic sound of the upbeat guitar begins to play, evidently showing that this is an indie feel-good coming of age comedy.
La La Land Official Trailer - 'City of Stars' Teaser (2016) - Emma Stone...
The trailer for La La Land, starring established on-screen pair of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling paints it as a prestige picture in the vein of early Hollywood cinema. This is evident immediately with the circular fade in to a shot of a Los Angeles boulevard and is the genre is committed to throughout with its vibrant colours and varied imagery, some even fantastical in nature such as the moments where Stone and Gosling's characters seem to levitate into the air. Director Damien Chazelle utilises a number of techniques regarding cinematography for instance lens flares which lend a stylistic sheen to the image, while a particular shot, that of the couple in an aerial tram in the foreground exploits depth to great effect with the city skyline in deep focus in the background, remiscient of the shots in Orson Welle's 'Citizen Kane'. The music of the trailer is a single track,a song taken from the film suggesting that is in fact a musical, drawing even closer comparisons with the golden era of Hollywood cinema with films such as 'Singing in the Rain'. The lyrics often tie in neatly with what is seen on screen, Stone singing "inside a frame" while the visuals seem edited to resemble grainy film stock and "here's to the mess we made" accompanying a succession of shots featuring the couple looking forlorn. The climax of the trailer is particularly evocative of the romance genre, with title cards showing the two actor's names each followed by an image of them before their display of affection - a great big kiss. No one else in the film is focused on, merely alluded to, such as John Legend's character; the focus is obviously on the couple at the heart of the picture.
The Girl with All the Gifts Official International Trailer #1 (2016) - G...
The Girl with all the gifts is a dystopian feature movie that shows remarks of a Zombie survival movie. This is shown through the characters and story line. The trailer starts off with an establishing shot of what could be interpreted as a prison-like location, while exaggerated diegetic sounds of lights being turned on is progressed. this then cuts to a close up shot of a young girl, along with the sound of a siren type alarm, also inferring a prison, as she is shown to pull off pictures from a wall. This is then cut to an establishing shot of the room, and we are shown an orange hoodie and trousers, which we usually associate the colour orange with prisoners. next to this is a wheelchair, this is contrasted by the fact that she is able to walk. this makes the viewer think that these children are in some sort of captive prison, and have no free will as they are made to sit in a wheelchair and wear orange clothing. we then see a "prison guard" in an army-like jumpsuit yelling and banging on the doors.Stenciled numbers on the door as shown to connote prison and a strict regime, as the prisoners are now identified by numbers. however this is contrasted when the girl we are introduced to, speaks to an elderly woman as she calls her "Melanie". this is then followed by a shot of two guards holding a gun up against Melanie as she sits in her wheelchair. The perspective of this shot is shown to make the audience feel as if they were in the room, and emphasise the tension. the girl is then locked down to the wheelchair, creating suspense in the trailer and suggesting that something is wrong and that they are in the midst of a post apocalyptic world,

Bridget Jones's Baby Official Trailer #1 (2016) - Renée Zellweger Movie HD
This trailer begins with well known institution logos, we usually associate this with big movies, which are likely to sell well and gain a large amount of money due to the all star cast and previous successful movies. There is use of non deigetic music of a bridal chorus you would associate with a wedding, is played over the top of the logos which help the transition as a sound bridge to the next cut to a scene of a church hall, with the music still playing and the opening of doors where we are introduced to the character "Bridget Jones" in a wedding dress. Shots of happy people, and familiar faces are visible. There is also use of narrative in the scene of the main character this indicates to the audience that this film is a romcom genre, as voice over narratives are a typical romcom genre convention. after the voice over line "at least that's how i pictured it" it cuts to a scene of the same character in a long shot set in a living room where there is diegetic sad music playing "all by myself".This infers to the audience that the first scene was not in fact reality making us sympathise with the main character. The song "all by myself" which plays in the second scene is a key aspect of the trailer as it reminds fans of the Bridget Jones diary sequel as this song is played in the first movie when Bridget Jones the character is reflecting on how lonely she is. The editing in this trailer is done so that Bridget gets more prevalence so that we can sympathise and relate to her, this is a common convention in romcoms. The.The next shot is then a long shot of the buildings in central London informing the audience of where the movie is set. There is then another set of nondiegtic music which is upbeat and light hearted as the camera cuts to a long shot of the main character walking over the bridge in a blue formal dress. The music creates a happy mood yet again hinting at the romcom genre which has light hearted happy moments and also gloomy moments where we feel sorry for the main character. The costume she wears also connotes importance and suggests her confidence has improved since her supposed break up. There are then quick shots of her in spinning classes and crowd diving this suggests that she is happy and having fun. There is then medium shots of her and her ex who is clearly going to be main character in this movie as he is also given a lot of prevalence suggesting he will be a love interest. As Bridget says "my love life is showing signs of improvement". there is shot of her falling face first into mud and having a handsome man help her up. The falling is also another indication of comedy genre as it is slapstick humour. The man that helps her up is also given prevalence this suggests that there will be a love triangle happening which is expected as in the previous Bridget Jones films there was the traditional love triangle in both films. however this time there is a new character involved this proposes an enigma for the audience as it makes us wonder who will she stay with?. The nondiegetic music stops when she says "I'm pregnant" and there is a close up shot of her looking down at a pregnancy test. This shows the audience the problem that occurs in the middle of the plot and makes us wonder how she will handle this. There is an ironic moment in the next scene where the main character's voice over says "everything is under control" just as the sprinklers are set off when her work colleagues are presenting her with a cake and the sprinklers on the ceiling drench everyone in the office and spoil the cake. There is diegetic sound of a fire alarm also representing danger which instantly goes against her comment of everything being under control. This makes the audience laugh. It cuts to a shot of the film institution working title which is a successful film insitution which has produced other romcom films such us "Notting Hill".

Bridget jones diary film poster
Film magazine
In this Film magazine front cover, we are instantly drawn to Johny Depp who is the main image. This image shot is a close up of Johny Depp from shoulders up, he is looking directly at readers this is called Direct mode of address. This is effective in grabbing our attention as it becomes more personal to the reader we also recognise Johny quicker as his face is most prominant in this picture. He is the selling point as he is a famous hollywood actor that the majority of people will know of. This intrigues the reader to read the magazine and possibly watch the film he is starring in as "Willly wonker in charlie and the chocolate factory". For people who do not know of the book or the original film will be able to infer that this film is a fantasy fiction genre. As the use of colourful costume he is wearing connotes a fun fantasy genre instead of a dark serious genre. There are also small puffs on the side reading "grab your golden ticket!" this use of choice of words are very effective as they are commandments "GRAB your ticket" making us as the reader feel as if we have been targeted and that we should really watch this film.

The Secret Lives Of Dorks Official Trailer 1 (2013) - Comedy Movie HD
This is the trailer of "the secret lives of dorks" this is a great example of a rom/com movie trailer which is a genre me and Eleanor are going to be looking into for our own film trailer. The first significant shot in this trailer is the the introduction to the movie institution "Gravitas Ventures" which pops up in a 3D motion with light purple sparkles shinning towards us.The font of the institution title is also loopy girly font. this connotes a light hearted theme which is a convention of romantic comedy's. This use of institution title shot will influence mine and Eleanor style of institution title image. We then see the first scene of this trailer it is a fairly long shot of a teenage boy sitting on the edge of his bed, the scenery in his room appears very cluttered and disorganized with posters covering the walls. This use of scenery conforms to the general stereotypes of teenagers being messy and unorganized. There is diegetic sound of an answering machine on the phone as the camera zooms into a close up shot of the boys face,He wears big glasses as a prop and he is stuttering as he speaks. The use of stuttering is purposely done to indicate that he is nervous the glasses also suggest he might considered "nerdy" which then links in with the title of the film "the secret lives of dorks"There is then use of non diegetic sound of a school bell which is used as a sound bridge it begins at the end of the first shot of him in his room and carry's on through the rapid transition of the institution titles to the next shot of a close up of the main characters face in high school. There is then significant narrative dialogue of the main character this is a typical romcom genre cliche where the main character narrates in the movie so that the audience can feel closer to the protagonist and relate with their struggles. The same use of narrative is used in Notting Hill a very succesful romcom. In this scenario we can relate to Paytons struggles of not fitting in, getting bullied being labeled as a dork in high school. We see these through quick snapshots of him looking upset being pushed stuck with sticky notes and dialogue from two boys in a convertible car calling him a "Dork". The next significant shot is a close up of his love interest. This connotes love which is a key theme in romcom genres.Further into the trailer there are several shots of the main character bumping into his crush and saying silly things that make the audience laugh and feel sorry for him. This immediately indicated that it is a romcom genre as there is slapstick and farcical humor.

Empire magazine front cover
Empire magazine
This is the front cover of Empire, a popular film magazine. In this certain front cover Inception is the main film being advertised. We are introduced to a picture of Leonardo DiCaprio a celebrity actor who is the unique selling point of inception. He has been edited to look 3D so that he stands out on the page and makes him look intimidating. This instantly catches the readers eyes as it is the first thing that pops out to us. Leonardo holds a gun as prop and his costume is a formal suit and tie. This connotes power and importance and also connotes the Action genre as he holds a gun.this style can also be linked with James bond action films because of the use of costume and prop .The title of the film Inception is also in bold red across Leonardo chest so that the audience can focus on the title. The bold color red can also connote blood and danger and hints to us that this film is possibly an action film. The vertical writing on the sides of the front cover are also very effective they are in bold black ink and are edited to create the illusion of a 3D effect making the reader feel as if they are drawn into the magazine there for making it feel more personal to audience.
